When Tragedy Struck

On Saturday, October 15, 2022, Walker, a junior at the University of Mississippi, celebrated his 21st birthday surrounded by his dear ones. Little did he know what awaited him around the corner.

Several hours later, he and his friend, Blanche Williamson, 20, were celebrating an Ole Miss. football game victory in downtown Oxford, Mississippi, when the unimaginable happened. The two youngsters were reportedly hit by a truck in the parking lot behind Oxford City Hall.

According to the police, the two students suffered severe injuries in the hit-and-run early morning on Sunday, October 16. Sadly, Walker succumbed to his wounds and died on the scene, while Williamson was air-flighted to a hospital in Memphis in critical condition.

In addition to the football victory, Walker was celebrating his birthday when the gut-wrenching incident occurred. Two people were said to be arrested as part of the investigation.

Per the local authorities, Seth Rokitka, 24, and Tristan Holland, 18, were taken into custody. Both hailed from Collierville, Tennessee. The Oxford Police confirmed that the accident was completely random and there was no link between the suspects and victims.

Barry Burks, Walker's family friend and mentor, said the Fielder family was reeling with indescribable pain and trauma. He said he had known Walker since childhood and mentored him for seven years in their disciple group.

He described the young man as a beautiful soul and said he was studying finance at university. Burks also stated:

"[Walker] had a full life ahead of him and he was full of life, and so, just to [have your life] cut short, it doesn't get any more tragic than that."

Always Smiling

Burks shared that he and Walker attended church together in Jackson. Moreover, he requested people to lift the late youngster's family in prayers during a difficult time when they were "completely overwhelmed with grief and sadness."

Williamson, a Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority member from Raleigh, North Carolina, and a sophomore, survived the horrific incident. Her family issued a statement where they shared condolences with Walker's family and said their daughter was expected to make a full recovery.

Meanwhile, Walker's loved ones continue to struggle with the heartbreaking news of his death. Alex Summerford, his childhood friend, said he was someone he had looked up to since they were kids. He added:

"[Walker] always had a smile on his face. Just truly one of the nicest guys I know."

Walker's lifelong friend, Nelson Thomas, said he was broken to lose a brother and a best buddy with whom he shared a treasure trove of memories. Thomas said he and Walker did everything together and loved embarking on adventures and weekend getaways. He confessed:

"[Walker] was just that special. We didn't deserve him. I didn't deserve him. None of us did."
