Andy was 2 years old when Fidel Castro came to power in Cuba in the 1959 Bay of Pigs Invasion in 1961 Andy’s father relocated his wife and 3 children, including 5-year-old Andy, to Miami, Florida. After moving to the USA, the García family founded a perfume company, which over time has developed into a successful multi-million dollar business.

When he was born he had remains of an undeveloped, conjoined twin attached to his shoulder. The twin was the size of a grapefruit and had to be surgically removed. All that’s left is a scar from that surgery.

He is good friends with fellow actor Mickey Rourke. Rourke was his baseball coach while a student at Miami Beach Senior High School.

García was included in Empire Magazine in 1995 as one of the “100 Sexiest Stars in Motion Picture History” at 65th place.

The role of Vincent Mancini in Francis Ford Coppola’s third installment in The Godfather series put him on the acting map. Andy’s niece Jackie García was engaged to footballer Sean Taylor. Sean, a Washington Redskins security, was further shot by intruders at his home26. November 2007. Although Jackie and her 18-month-old daughter were not injured in the incident, her fiancé, Taylor, succumbed to his injuries and died the next day.

In recent years he has expressed an interest in returning to his native Cuba. However, he has made it clear that he is opposed to the current authoritarian regime of the Castro family.

García directed the 2005 film The Lost City , written by Cuban writer Guillermo Cabrera Infante. The film lasted 16 years and is a love song to his Cuban culture and heritage.
